Dekker grew up in New York City, Cape Cod, and Central Florida. Some of his earliest memories are of the traveling marionette show his parents performed up and down the East coast, but for most of his childhood his father was a painter and his mother managed a resort hotel. He began his career in the late 1990’s photographing musical artists for publications like Spin and Rolling Stone while still a teenager. In 2001 his first short film Closed Circuit was commissioned by Miramax to accompany the Steven Soderbergh-produced feature Naqoyqatsi. In 2006 he was a founding partner in the television network Illusion On-Demand supporting independent genre filmmakers on a nationally distributed VOD platform. From 2008 to 2012 he traveled the world creating experiential artwork and socially conscious essays with his wife Julia while filming his first feature-length project The Arcadian. In 2012 he joined Participant Media to launch their youtube partner channel and their television network Pivot, where he oversaw their streaming service and worked closely with series like the Emmy-winning HitRecord on TV (with Joseph Gordon Levitt) and Freestyle Love Supreme (with Lin Manuel Miranda). In 2015 he began creating virtual reality projects, for which he’s been called a pioneer by both MovieMaker and Entrepreneur magazine. His touring augmented reality shows have been large draws and he has created exclusive original content for Digital Domain, BroomX, Mandt VR, Devo, Bootsy Collins, and Disturbed. He is a member of the Television Academy and the creator of Columbia College Chicago’s online VR Producing Program. He’s spoken on the evolving world of immersive media at events ranging from Sundance to Cannes and is the curator of The Slamdance Film Festival’s DIG (Digital, Interactive, and Gaming) program.

As an artist, his work connects technology, the supernatural, dreams, and folklore; often through the lens of a contemporary or near-future world.

The company he founded with his wife, Clever Fox, is a home for both his original and branded work in immersive / digital media with clients ranging from studios like Disney and Warner Bros to major brands including Bose and Ruth’s Chris.
